Meze, the Persian word for appetizer, is being regularly used in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean basin and includes all these small dishes that we eat before the main course. Every country has its own meze dishes and they sometimes vary from place to place. They are served in small portions and a good collection of them may easily replace a main course. In Greece and Naxos, there are several taverns that serve meze only and they are called "mezedopolia".
Tzatziki is the favourite Greek snack that can be enjoyed as a dip (with bread, rusk or vegetables) and usually escorts meat dishes.
There is a strong connection between the green pepper and the feta cheese. Adding a few extras and the taste takes off!
They can be served either as a grilled vegetable salad or as a meze, accompanied by tzatziki or thin slices of the famous graviera of Naxos. Magical!
Tyrokafteri (Spicy cheese dip)
Tyrokafteri is a must on a Greek table. It is very fast and simple to make (with 3 ingredients only) and its taste is based on good quality feta cheese.
Dip with strong flavour to be eaten with bread and vegetables. It may also be used in Mediterranean sanwiches. Enjoy it with some ouzo.
