Oh, this magnificent Kouros! This is no ordinary piece of marble, we are talking about a 10.5m marble statue!! That is 3.5 storey high! It never ceases to amaze me when I see any ancient sculpture this big! Even though it is lying on the ground, its dimensions are impressive.
A very short walk uphill (just before reaching Apollonas village) will take you there. The view is spectacular; you get to see the northern Aegean, the green and rocky hills of the area and part of the village. I asked the two sweet ladies to stand by its feet so I can take a photo. They even tried to reach the top of its right foot by stretching their arms. Not even close!
It is partly hidden by the undergrowth but it is hard to miss a foot that stands almost 2 meters high. The location is a bit of a quandary because there is no indication of where they intended to place this piece.
Another question that I still have is how those guys intended to erect a single piece this big without having it break into pieces. I mean the stresses on the rock must be unimaginable!
