The only marble Naxian statues that can be seen today are those half finished oversized statues that were made between the 7th and 6th century B.C. and are found today in the remains of the ancient marble quarries of Melanes and Apollonas.
There are many references to pioneer Naxian families of marble craftsmen (family of Vizis, whose name is signed on marble tiles of Acropolis) and show that the contribution of Naxos to the growth of sculpture was enormous.
