Nearly 28 km from Naxos Town on the way to Apollonas village, or 6 km from Apollonas village to Chora, Agia Tower over-watches the Aegean Sea. The tower is about 150m after the monastery of Panagia. It belonged to the noble family of Kokkos who had it built in the 17th century.
The structure faces the sea and its function was to control the northern section of the island. Its position was such that it enabled an excellent view of the north-western part of the island.
Although the walls and battlements still stand, it was extensively damaged in a fire that took place in 1992. Since then, there has been no attempt to reconstruct the damaged tower who has been literally taken over by nature.
