Throughout the year, various religious and cultural events take place on Naxos. Most of them take place during the tourist season and they are considered a major tourist attraction for both Greek and foreign tourists.
Most religious festivities take place in the villages and they celebrate either a local saint or the Virgin Mary. They hold a special place in the heart of the islanders because it had always been good excuse for people to gather at a grand event with music, singing, dancing, lots of wine and food and, of course, the local gossip.
On the other hand, cultural festivals are artistic events and can involve any form of art. However, music and painting are the arts celebrated the most in this case.
