Mikri Vigla on the west coast is a masterpiece of nature, an artist’s paradise and an action photographer’s best choice since this is a famous wind and kite surfers' beach. It is a small headland that juts out into the sea and is found between the beaches of Parthena to the north, which is ideal for swimming and windsurfing and Sahara towards the south, a 4 Kilometre long beach of white sand and a veritable magnet for bathers. The beautiful whitish sandy beach of Mikri Vigla sets off the aquamarine blue hues of the sea beautifully.
Mikri Vigla is a fine resort for those focused on swimming, water sports and eating good food. There are quite a few accommodation units in the area, some of which are only within a few steps from the beach. They offer all creature comforts. If eating good food is your thing, the several averagely priced taverns of the area will keep you fully satisfied. They offer good local cuisine with excellent local products. Some even have a fantastic sea view. When the time has come to have a coffee, there are also quite a few options. What Mikri Vigla lacks is the emphasis on nightlife. But then again, it is a beach for families, sea sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. Besides, beach bars and exciting nightlife is only a short drive away.
The recently constructed asphalt road passing alongside the airport’s runway will take you from Naxos Town to Mikri Vigla in approximately 11.2 kilometres via Plaka Beach. The last few kilometres are earth road, easy to access.
The “old fashioned” route to get there (and, according to some, the best) is from Naxos Town going south, driving through the villages Galanado and Tripodes (Vivlos). This route offers unobstructed panoramic views of the entire coastline of Plaka, Orkos and Mikri Vigla. It is a distance of approximately 16.8 kilometres with 100% asphalt road.
This is an organised beach so there are umbrellas and sun-beds for rent. However, there are not many, so during high season it is best that you carry your own. To many tourists a swim to Mikri Vigla is an all-day event, combined with lunch, coffee and sometimes an additional afternoon swim.
The nearest beaches to Mikri Vigla are Kastraki to the south and Orkos and Plaka to the north.
